Maintaining healthy, sparkling clean water is one of the most significant concerns among hot tub owners and operators.

In Pkdata’s most recent hot tub consumer research study, about one-third of owners reported utilizing a professional company for the cleaning and water treatment of their hot tubs. Of those using a professional service, about half of the respondents said they had the service company perform hot tub openings and closings only. About two-thirds of hot tub owners perform their own maintenance and water sanitization. This remained steady throughout the pandemic.

Purchasing chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing continued to be a challenge in 2021. Almost all hot tub dealers and retailers reported delays in obtaining retail chemical products. High demand for chemicals, combined with production and shipping delays, made it difficult for dealers to source adequate pool and spa chemical supplies. The chemical products most challenging to obtain were chlorine and bromine.
